It is hard to believe now that New Kids on The Block released their first album in 1986 with little success. It was actually their second album “Hangin’ Tough”, released two years later in 1988, that sky rocketed them to fame. After that NKOTB became extremely popular and gained a huge following of young fans.
With such success it was no surprise that Hasbro launched New Kids on The Block dolls. In 1990 there were two series of 12 ¼ inch NKOTB Fashion Dolls: “Hangin’ Loose” and “In Concert”. Each series consisted of five dolls, one for each member of the band; Donnie, Jordan, Jonathan, Danny, and Joe. Each doll wore fashions closely resembling the real life counterpart. Even included on some of the dolls were rat tails!
There was also a series of 18 inch soft dolls named “Show Time Kids” and a series of 6 inch poseable figures. In addition Hasbro released a doll sized stage to recreate New Kids on The Block concerts and some working regular sized electronics with NKOTB branding including a phone, radio, microphone, cassette player, and headphones.
